Dilemmas Galore!

OMG! My head is gonna explode! I got the Public Service Department Scholarship or more commonly known as JPA…so now how? Some of you guys should know that I’ve got the Taylor’s Worldclass Scholarship and will be going for my foundation in July, but now…I got JPA pulak…sigh…how to choose?

Arghh…headache…

Well, just to give you guys some perspective of my dilemma, here are the pros and cons…

Taylor’s Worldclass Scholarship

>>Course : 1 year foundation in Communication and 3 years BA of Communication & Media Management
>>Location : Talylor’s College, School of Communication, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur.
>>Tuition fees: 100% tuition fee waiver
>>Estimated expenses: RM50,000 ++ for 4 years (miscellaneous fees, lodging & allowance)
>>Personal remarks: I’ll be able to study what I like and at the same time have a more flexible degree as I can go into journalism, advertising, PR, media planning…etc. Upon graduation, I’ll have an internship with Arc Worldwide which is an international communication company under the infamous Leo Burnett firm. However, living expenses are high and should be considered.

Public Service Department Scholarship (JPA)

>>Course: 1 year Canadian Pre-U and 4 years for BA of International Relations
>>Location: Malaysia (Pre-U), Canada (degree studies)
>>Tuition fees: 100% tuition fee waiver
>>Estimated expenses: Unknown, but allowance will be given by the ministry for lodging, miscellaneous fees and living expenses.
>>Personal remark: Well, it’s Canada for God sake’s! Definitely will benefit from the exposure and studying in a different country is like a dream come true. But, I’m a little unsure of the course given and the career prospects that come upon graduation. Will be bonded to serve the country (Malaysia) if the needs arise.

So? Which should I choose? Okay, I know you guys can’t make any decision for me…but what if you guys are in my shoes right now? Which one will be your choice? To make it easier, I’m posting a poll for you guys to vote. It’s on the right corner, just above my profile-thingy, it start this very moment and will end by tomorrow…so vote! Vote! Vote! And give me your most honest and unbiased opinions okay…

P/S: I hope to know more about Social science and International Relations, so if any of you have any info, please let me know okay? Thanks!

Hello Nard,
Thatsa tough decision there..

But firstly, u have to tink that u have to choose that u love the most.. I mean whats the use of studying if u dun like that course?

And true enuff, studying overseas is a very good experience and exposure. But the cons is that, are u willing to leave ur parents and vice versa?

If u tink u can handle this, i would rather choose to study overseas.. But as we know, studying overseas have lots of pros and cons!!

PErsonally, i wud choose to study overseas...

p/s: btw, u received 2 scholarships! You must be a damn smart boy rite??

hahaha!!

First of all, well done Leonard!

Personally, I think if it boils down to choosing the course you love or overseas exposure, I'd choose the formal. But the ball is in your court now, think carefully. Wish you all the best!!

p/s: Add me at msn (info in my profile) if you would like to know about study experiences overseas. I'd love to share my experience with you.

glad to hear that you got JPA o...but then, international relations is some sort like political science, you're gonna have to study some sort like government organization or global blablabla..so do you think that you have the interest on this?cuz i know you're really into journalism or mass com..

yea it's true that you can finally realise your dream to study in overseas, but if you're studying something that you're not interested in,you're gonna regret of studying that place..cuz you'll be facing the same boring subject each and everyday.

remember, realizing your dreams is something you won't regret in the future..Canada will always wait for you to go or travel in the future, but the course you're interested in won't wait for you if you have chosen the other path..

don't forget that you're gonna work for government for years before you can work on your own, whereas if you'll be working with an international company after you've graduated from taylors.who knows they will see your potential in your field and send you out to country in the future?=)!

living expenses is high,i understand, but managing it can help reducing them.well,at least,it's way lower than mine, right?

well, you know what answer i'm giving you now.i'm not opposing anything, but this is what i can comment about, honestly.no matter how,i'll always respect your decision geh..gambateh o..!

hey nard... first of all, what they say...

secondly, congrats u got JPA.. (i missed my medical attchm, thus, missing, my interview) but i would hv chosen jpa if the course i want was offered... i hv the feeling that you will be bonded after you finish.. wasn't it always like this?

though tempting to study overseas, i'm pretty sure u hv sthg u like more btwn these two scholarships rite? choose sthg u like to do, not sthg u hv to do...

let us know wht your decision is aite.... u know we'd always support u... the hardest to deal would be the dilemma btwn u and your family members... (i survived... barely)

tc..!!

actually you still don't really know what they offer in that jpa scholarship right/ maybe you should find out more what it's offering. maybe they are offering something you desire...and at the same time they are sending you to CANADA!!! remember you are one of the lucky ones. out of 180 non malays in the country, and you are selected. it's a golden oppertunity that only knocks probably only once in your life time. remember the cert you get would be imprinted with the word CANADA, how much value the name of the country brings with/ and the government is covering all the miscellaneous fees and lodging stuffs. so it's absolutely free. working for the government shouldn't be something you should worry about. you can pay them back when you start working. just tolerate them for maybe one or two years, then after that, you are a free bird. think far. in the end, it's still the country of your tertiary education matters. look up in the sky, it's a REALISTIC WORLD!!!
